Introduction
The 2B11 is a 120mm mortar of Russian origin. The 2B11 has the nickname Sani and is a much improved version of the World War 2 era M43 120mm mortar. It was developed to provide a longer range and better mobility than the World War 2 era M43.
Layout
The 2B11 is a muzzle loaded smoothbore mortar of a conventional design. It can be viewed as a vastly improved M43. It features a longer and stronger barrel. The 2B11 can be dismantled in a base plate, barrel and tripod, but is normally transported in an assembled state on a two wheel carriage. A crew of five operates the weapon.
Firepower
The 2B11 fires a new range of 120mm shells, although ammunition for the M43 can also be used. The maximum range is 7.1 km. A maximum rate of fire of 15 rounds per minute can be achieved.
Mobility
The 2B11 is issued with a light weight two wheel carriage. Due to its light weight it is more easily towed by infantry over short ranges than other mortars. Due to the light carriage over longer distances the 2B11 is to be transported on a vehicle. At first the GAZ-66 was used, but it is now marketed with a Ural 4x4 truck.
Users
The 2B11 is primarily used in Russia and Eastern Europe. It is not as widely profilerated as the M43. For many nations, especially third world nations, the M43 suffices and the 2B11 is not worth the investment.

The 2B11 is a conventional smoothbore muzzle loaded mortar. The light weight two wheel carriage allows for easy transportation by infantry but requires the mortar to be carried within a vehicle over longer distances.
